When Carpet Beetles Keep Turning Up at Home

Hi, I’m Gunhee Park with Anteater Pest Control (678-704-3349). Carpet should make a room feel comfortable. Finding insects there again after vacuuming can leave you wondering what you missed.
One customer described hairy larvae and dark bugs in a living-room carpet stored in the basement during a move. They felt as though something was biting them and were especially worried with a three-year-old at home. Vacuuming helped briefly, but the insects returned. An article they found online led them to suspect carpet beetles, though the insects and their origin still needed checking.
Carpet beetles do not bite. Their larval hairs can irritate some people’s skin, but the customer’s report alone did not establish the cause. Identification comes first.
The larvae can damage wool, silk, feathers and other animal-derived materials. Adults do not eat fabric, but their eggs can lead to more larvae. Insects may arrive on infested belongings or enter through open doors and windows. Hair, dead insects and overlooked materials can support them indoors.
Look for feeding sources as well as visible insects. Inspect rugs, stored clothing and quiet areas beneath furniture. Vacuum carpet edges and remove accumulated hair and debris. Clean affected fabrics according to their care instructions, check screens and avoid leaving unscreened doors or windows open.
If pesticide treatment is needed, use only a product labeled for the pest and the area. Keep children and pets away as directed. Follow the label and the provider’s instructions for returning and cleaning afterward, along with storage and disposal precautions that protect the surrounding environment. There is no single waiting time or treatment schedule that fits every situation.
If insects keep appearing, ask a qualified pest-control professional to identify them and inspect for feeding sites before recommending treatment. Check the provider’s license, insurance and relevant experience, and discuss follow-up based on what the inspection finds. You can contact Anteater Pest Control with questions about the activity in your home.
